A bit about me: I am a game audio designer based in Austin, TX. I have worked in audio and music production for over twenty years and have been doing sound design for games since in 2011. It was at this time that I discovered the world of indie games and, being completely enthralled by it, decided to invest my time and resources into making a career in games. Since then, I have immersed myself into the world-wide community of game developers, absorbing as much knowledge as possible along the way. Each aspect of game design informs every other aspect, so the more I learn the better I can do my job as a sound designer. Each game I work on is its own creative adventure and exploring new concepts/challenges is always super exciting!
Interactive audio design is about creating sound systems that will complement all the other systems that make up your game. Making sure sound is used as a way to reinforce game mechanics and also bring the proper aesthetic to the game, that’s what it’s all about.
After mapping out the general plan for the audio for the game, the process of creating audio assets begins. Taking the time to create unique sound effects that help the game stand out and become a more memorable experience, is always a goal during this step of the process.
The work doesn’t stop at asset creation, audio implementation is key to making a great sounding game. Whether using in-house audio tools or third-party audio middleware software, I make sure that all sound assets and systems are working in game the way they were designed to be.
Linear sound design is a big part of game audio as well. From announcement trailers to in game cinematics, I work on project videos to bring some of that “wow” factor or cinematic feel you come to expect from linear media.
Ah, how good it feels to see it all come together. Mixing and mastering is that last step in the game audio process. Making sure all the audio elements work well with the music and with each other in the beautiful audio spectrum.
From voice acting direction to field recording, foley work to audio synthesis. Each game is its own world with its own set of challenges and needs, that’s what makes this work so exciting. I love working creatively with the development team to solve challenges in the most interesting way possible.
I getting involved and helping other developers create new and exciting games. So lets have a chat and see how I can help you and your team achieve your creative vision and more!
